Will be food eventually…

My real goal with these shots was to make a nice fall/autumn PUMPKIN wallpaper for my MacBook. I’m not really sure I hit the nail on the head. I mean, these photos are nice, but nothing special. The pumpkins don’t scream EAT ME! nor do they give me warm fuzzies about this lovely fall season. I like fall, there’s just something about it that makes me warm. Perhaps it’s the pulling out of warm blankets and sweatshirts for the first time since summer that gives me the warmth impression. Plus the colors for this season are lovely.

Of course there is no real, wonderfully colorful autumn where I live. We have some aspens up in the mountains that turn, but it’s rather quick and not anything stunning like some locations in the eastern US. I admit, I am jealous of those locations. Arizona as whole generally lacks color. I find this makes me horribly depressed – nothing is vibrant, or if it is, it’s so small and for such a short time that you’re likely to miss it. But at least I have some supermarkets that I can purchase cool things like turban squashes from. I love the metroid looking pumpkin! It makes me HAPPY! You know what else makes me happy? My brand-spankin-new, black, 32gb, iPhone 4s! I preordered it on the 7th and got it this weekend. We had a bit of a debacle, but we eventually got my phone an actual phone number and got it activated. And now I’m lovin’ it! I will have to take some photos with the camera and then post them, just to see how they hold up (though I know in general, my DSLR will win).

More good food please

Obviously I have a food photo obsession. Well, this is partly because I can never get anyone to let me photograph them – except on occasion my niece – and because food can just be so damn pretty! I made pita bread and tzatziki today. It wasn’t bad, but I think I can do better. But it still looks pretty, eh? Read the rest of this entry »

Foooooood!

It has been so long since I’ve posted – even logged on – to my blogs that I forgot my password… momentarily. It came back to me after a few false starts. That’s pathetic. Anyway, I’m back with some photos and posts. Today’s post is about food. A delicious lentil soup I made a couple of weeks ago. Read the rest of this entry »

Mmmmm cheesecake

I made this cheesecake the other day. It was my first time making a cheesecake, in fact, I haven’t been a big lover of cheesecake until recently. I found a recipe for classic cheesecake and added some orange zest to the mix. The orange zest was the best decision ever. Adds a nice lightness to the dense body of the cheesecake. I messed up the crust a bit by forgetting to measure how much graham cracker crumbs I had so the crust mixture came out a bit too… gluey. The result was a harder crust that wasn’t inedible, but just not as texturally enjoyable as it should have been. My bad. Next time I will make sure I actually have enough graham cracker crumbs.

I also made an absolutely delicious raspberry and blackberry sauce to go over the cheesecake, because that is how I like it. I put equal parts sugar and water on the stove, then once the sugar was dissolved, dumped in a whole bunch of fresh raspberries and blackberries as well as orange zest and fresh orange juice. I let that stew for a bit on the stove and then put it in the blender to finish breaking down the fruit. I think I should have left it on the stove for a bit longer in order to thicken up a tad, but I’m happy with the flavor, and I don’t even mind the runnier quality of the sauce. I jarred up my left over sauce and have it in the fridge. I’m thinking we should use it up on waffles or pancakes – something to that effect once the cheesecake runs out. For the photos I just found a spot of light that was coming into the kitchen and had at it. Despite the natural light I still needed the shutter speed around 1/50th of a second and could have stood to use a tripod, but I was in too much of a hurry to actually eat the piece of cheesecake, lol!
